Introducing Hayes Street Candle Company's Newest Intern

Carrying on my tradition of hiring interns, I’m excited to introduce:

Chippy!

Chippy (also affectionally known as Woodchipper, also Chipper, Chocolate Chip, Potato Chip, and more) came to work for me on Valentine’s Day 2026 as an adorable, anxious, little 7-month-old puppy. His rescue profile said that he was suspected of having OCD, and I said “Hey, I also have OCD!” It also said he likes to spin in circles—just like my former intern, Allister. He’s a perfect match for me!

In just over two months, Chippy has spun his way into our hearts. To be fair, I was immediately enamored with him (my partner took a few more days). Chippy is truly a delightful little Chihuahua-Dachshund-Terrier-Mystery mix.

Now you might be saying, “Margie, you can’t hire a dog as an intern!” and to them I say, “There are no rules in capitalism!” Plus, if you call it an internship, you don’t have to pay them anything. But I’m a fair employer, so I pay him with treats, cuddles, kisses, belly rubs, and allowing him to bite on my hands (I really don’t like that one though).

My little Chipper has been learning how to pour candles, do marketing (have you seen his LinkedIn posts yet?), and organize inventory. He helped me come up with a new yet-to-be-named scent that has vanilla cake and cotton candy aromas, so I’m excited for him to help me launch it. Our other plans include attending summer markets together, assuming he’s not a menace (which, to be honest, he kind of is).

Stay tuned for more updates from Hayes Street Candle Company’s favorite intern!
